My name is Violeta, director and founder of ILO, and I am addicted to my phone. You could probably say the same, if you use social media, and are being truthful to yourself.
I do not say this judgmentally, it’s what very clever people are paid for when they work making social media apps.
I probably won’t join a group to get rid of my problem, but I certainly don’t want my kids' brains to be exposed to what is, essentially, digital crack. I am not alone in that desire, we can see what is happening to our kids, right in front of our eyes. If you are new to the parenting world, you are lucky, you have had a whole generation of digital pioneers ahead of you, and it may not be wise to ignore what they are telling us.
At ILO we have always worked closely guided by our values, and one of them is to not be part of the problem. Our long-lasting designs and materials are very much guided by this, no throwaway fashion here. We also don’t want ILO to be part of the digital ‘social media’ crack problem.
ILO is taking a huge step towards this, one that raises most eyebrows when we have spoken about it. It’s simple: we do not want parents to have to come to social media to connect with us, so we are setting up a hugely improved newsletter, full of amazing info, resources, ideas and more, available to you at first via email, but with a view of being completely digitally free eventually.
We want to create a resource that works for you, your interests and questions and what you are going through in your parenting life. It will be a monthly publication, and it won’t require you to scroll through any app that activates your dopamine receptors.
If you’d like to come on this new and exciting journey with us, just subscribe on our website.
We won’t be posting on any of our social media channels any more, so this will be the only way to keep in touch with us, finding out markets, events, sales, new prints and designs, as well as all the resources we will be putting our efforts and time into.
Let’s do it, let’s break free.
